Composed for Séamus Ó’Kane of Dungiven County Derry on the occasion of his 60th birthday. Aoibheann says “I often witnessed Séamus running, or leaping, from wherever he was in the room to grab his bodhrán and accompany the mazurkas being played. He loves an ould mazurka!”
We follow this with The Spanish Mazurka which we learned in sessions from Nigel Boullier and Dianna Skillen, who got it from Jackie Donnan, who got it from his mentor and friend Willie Savage (1880 - 1956), all from a long tradition of fiddle players in Co. Down who’s history and repertoire can be found in Handed Down by Nigel Boullier.
